Cheltenham Festival - Baring Bingham Novices' Hurdle

National Hunt’s grade one ranked Baring Bingham Novices’’ Hurdle opens the action on the second day of the four-day Cheltenham Festival horseracing event. The race is a two mile five furlong (4225 m) jump event run on the Old Course. Participating horses have to be four years or older, going over ten hurdles before crossing the finish line.

The race’s name honours the first festival’s organizer. It was introduced at the 1971 festival, when it was won by five-year-old Midsprite.

The  standing records have however been made in recent years. Leading jockey Ruby Walsh won his first Baring Race in 2008 and has gone ahead to win three more since then. In all four wins, Walsh rode Willie Mullins’ trained horses and helped the latter become the leading trainer. The duo last won in 2016 before they were dethroned by the jockey-trainer team of David Bass and Ben Pauling in 2017.
